Credit Repair - Illegal?
by Barry Noret
One of the biggest misconceptions we all face is that credit repair is illegal.
The truth is, when done by the book, credit repair is perfectly legal.
When you consider that 50-70% of all credit reports in the United States
are inaccurate, something has to be done. Yes,
there are scoundrels and firms out there touting repair services that are very
illegal. A couple key things to
remember are that you cannot just simply apply for a new social security number
or may not just hire someone to delete information on your files.
If a person or firm touts this as their solution, then you most assuredly
are dealing with illegal acts. And
you may also be sure that you will likely find yourself in court, defending your
actions, not theirs.
As a website dealing with credit repair, we
are often lumped into the same category as the certain sub-cultures that exist
on the Internet. For example, we
were recently denied placement on a very large directory of services because
reviewers of CreditMania found our activities questionable.
In fact, the way they put it, they said much of what we do here is
considered illegal in some states. In
my opinion, what they told us was that our site is considered to be in the same
category as the millions of pornographic websites out there.
Even though CreditMania finds this “pigeon holing” appalling, it is
really a matter of public ignorance. Most
people consider the words “credit repair” as an act of a sub culture.
Hence, it has to be illegal! The honest truth is that most all of us need
to repair our credit in some fashion. (How
accurate is your report? Is it a true reflection of your past? Are inaccuracies
denying you a home lease?)
At CreditMania, we only prescribe methods
that are fully legal. Methods all
afforded to us by the laws of the land. It
is wonderful to have the power of the law on your side.
Remember, when dealing with credit reporting agencies, you need the law
behind you. Without it, they would
not concern themselves with the accuracy of your reports. The credit bureaus must present fully accurate reports on
each of you, and unless you initiate complaints of inaccuracy, the bureau could
care less. So let us stress that on
our website you will not find any illegal advice or methods of restoring your
credit. We leave that to the
scammers and scoundrels and will warn about such scams with periodic alerts.
Above all, we will keep on defending your rights as a consumer to have a
clear and accurate report of your credit history.
Don’t
become a statistic. Don’t be one of the 50-70% out there. Take action, now!
